SOOO I had to share about how much fun I had on Friday night with my friends.  When you're working 12+ hour days on a surgery rotation.. It really does not take much to get a gal excited.  I had this ENTIRE weekend off. And I made good use of it. Me and the girls went to our regular spot. THE REPUBLIC.

Who doesn't have a regular spot.. that no matter what.. U KNOW u are going to have a good time. I mean we even know the owner and the bartender :-) yeah buddy we regulars.

Cute outfit. a bar. music. friends. = GOOD TIMES.  

While I was out a good guy friend decided to tell me "do not become one of those gals that turns 25 and feels like she needs a man." HAHA. Girls.. I was thinking. what in the world. He then says.. trust. Us men see this in the twenty something girls and WE RUN GAME.   SO LADIES. BEWARE. If you are single and young and fly. EMBRACE IT! BE CONFIDENT. Don't give off desperation just because a few friends are hitched with babies.    OR GUESS WHAT. GAME WILL BE RUN. On you. :-)   

and what I heard in church today.. Favor will bring that special someone. :-)  Until then I am going to live the life!!! Plus I really don't need anybody calling my phone everyday anyway. My new line.. Text me.  

Gotta make moves. See the world.

Its been too long as always!!

A few weekends ago me and the girls went out to eat to celebrate one of my friend's bday. (Happy belated Page!)  We had a great time and went to a great restaurant. For the locals if you are looking for a new spot to try... I reccommend Azitra: Authentic Indian Cuisine with a Unique Flair.  http://azitra.us/

The food was great. Atmosphere was nice. The bar made great drinks and u can make reservations.   My friend Sophia chose the spot. She insisted we do something other than the Cheesecake Factory at southpoint. Although still a fav.

Real Hip Hop 6: Brown Skin Lady by Black Star

Today on my pandora I heard some really good ol school hip hop. (Kanye West Station..) U gotta love it. This is a throwback. Real back.. Shout out to my friend Tavia who is concerned about the direction of hip hop. Lets just keep hope alive girl.. :-) We just have to dig a little harder for the good stuff. And I know u are going to blast that good hip hop on your OR one day :-0

Today I have decided to start a hair regimen!

What is this you may ask?? Its a plan that u have for your hair every week. Shampoo, conditioner, daily moisturizer, deep conditioner, oils.. etc etc.

This young lady has encouraged all the natural chics out there to really step it up and take care of their hair.
WELLL I am right with her. Today I decided everytime I wash my hair I am going to deep condition it! No matter what. I want long healthy thick locks of kinkiness. :-)  I think I am well on my way but I need to step it up.

Today I used the Miss Jessie's Best Darn Conditioner  and sat under the dryer for 10 minutes.
This week I will be buying another bottle of jojoba oil which is great for my hair. Keeps it moist and looking great.

The biggest challenge lately has been styling while on this surgery rotation. 4:15am is just not the best time to think about style and moisture.

WHOSE GOT SWAG???

Of course when hanging out with the crew... We often discuss dating. The question that never goes away is what is your type? What are you looking for?   
A certain friend only wants the tall, hunky, fine model type. ;-)  (I've encouraged her to keep dreaming until she meets him) hehe

A common theme at the age of 25.. is swag. But what is swag really?  Is this just a modern day term for confidence. I'd like to think I have swag. :-) 

This leads to my next question.. Since a few of us have decided to try internet dating. How can I properly evaluate your swag. lol. I know i know. sounds a little silly. probable is. I will say that I think swag comes in all different types of people, shades, heights, and personalities. (although 5'2" is pushing it sophia) I say we just keep focusing on our swag and confidence. BE BOLD.  

Quick update on my internet dating life. I'm getting bored. 1 month online and no dates. I might as well have not joined the website. Oh well. Can't say a girl didn't try. I just knew i would have something lined up for the long weekend. I'm giving it one more month.....  Then I'm relying strictly on my swag. :-)

IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG

Hello friends!!   ITs been too long since I have blogged. I have so many updates on the year of the 25. :-)

First let me start with.. It has been a LONG week. I survived week 2 of surgery. It was harder then the first do to some unforseen challenges. I actually encountered some challenges dealing with counterparts. Tips for the med students who read my blog. I prepared for the rotation with a book titled: Surgery Clerkship: 150 biggest mistakes and how to avoid them.   I read it the night before the first day and was really ready for what needs a surgery patient has. BUT i must warn you.. your preparation might come across to those unprepared as a know it all. Oh well i guess. If you strive to take great care of your patients... Thats all that matters.


SECOND. What was up with the horrible season premiere of the GAME on BET. Did anybody watch it? I was so disapointed. WHY do they make Melanie seem so desperate???  The antics are old. I expected to see characters that were mature and developed. They literally picked up right where they left off. AND the styling.... smh. We really need a show that portrays black love with resilience, passion and honesty. Not lies, deception and reckless behavior. I think I'm done with the game.


SHOUT OUT to my homies JOY and SOPHIA. We work hard and play hard :-)  We had a fabulous night at the cheesecake factory and nordstrom's rack on Friday night. A great piece of cheesecake and a strawberry martini goes a long way. :-) Here are pics of us the next day in the library on the grind. WORK HARD PLAY HARD.

1st week of surgery. SURVIVED

Hi Friends.

Well as expected.. the posts were a little less abundant this week. For good reasons. I survived my first week of surgery. I must say I really enjoyed it. Its actually making me quite nervous how much fun I am having....  

Should I be a cardiologist.. or a surgeon?? That is the question.

And can I be fly and fabulous in scrubs?  ... i think i can rock them.

This week was eventful. Held a gallbladder. Felt some inner organs. I felt like I was on a television show. Responded to traumas. I must say.. do not believe the hype. I think surgeons are pretty cool. As long as you are not scared of them or scared of saying the wrong answer. you can't go wrong. confidence is the key.

life at almost 25

Hi friends! Yesterday was a great day. Definitely a living in the moment type of day that I love. It started out with me going to church and being very thankful for a wonderful 2010. When thinking back about what made 2010 so memorable.. one of my friends Tierra said it best. "It was a year of challenges full of triumphs, great friendships were formed and it has given us even greater expectations for 2011." 

Yesterday evening I had dinner with a great group of women in my class. As a 3rd year medical student I appreciate time with my classmates SOOO much. We never see each other and the challenges of 3rd year are just... DIFFERENT.  The diversity in which the people around me approach life, interests, think and take on life is so refreshing to me.  SHOUT OUT TO THE HOSTESSES FOR A GREAT TIME! and GREAT FOOD.  call me for the next girls dinner!!

I am so thankful for all the great things in my life.... family, friends, classmates, Bible study crews....and I am looking forward to a great 2011...   Especially after i make it through these 8 weeks of surgery. Surgery. I got this! Lets get it!

I admire how much emotion Jennifer Hudson was able to put into this song. It brought tears to my eyes. She is truly an example of faith in the unseen and using God's gifts and talents for amazing things. I'm sure she wondered how she would overcome the loss of her family. She is truly a testimony. My heart goes out to her.
